~ Reviews from past puppy buyers ~

Hello Mari Jo!
It’s Kinzie, I adopted Brookie a little over four years ago. I wanted to send you an update cause she’s my best friend and we have so much fun together! I’ll add some pictures as well.
We went to the vet yesterday for a routine checkup and to get her regular vaccines. The vet was very impressed with her health and said he was shocked to not hear any heart murmur from her! I told him I got her from a responsible breeder who cares a great deal about her dogs and he said ‘Your breeder is doing everything right’. Throughout the appointment he was happy that her knees, hips, and eyes were also in excellent health. He was very impressed with you and how well you breed your dogs! So I had to pass that on to you. Thanks for caring so much about health so I can have a healthy happy pup!
Brookie is such a sweet, mellow dog but she also loves going on adventures. We like walking around the neighborhood, meeting new friends at the dog park, and she loves playing in water! I only have her off-leash in safe designated areas but she listens so well even off leash and is really smart.
Her best friend is a Mini Aussie named Poggers. She doesn’t usually run around and play with other dogs but she loves playing with him because he’s just her size and very gentle.
She loves to cuddle, of course, and her favorite place to be is sitting right in-between my boyfriend and I when we watch movies.
Thank you again for breeding healthy dogs, my whole life got brighter when Brookie came home with me and we are having a wonderful time together!

Mia is one of my favorite dogs I've owned, not only for a good walk around the ring at shows but to cuddle up with on the couch or by the fire. She is one of the best tempered, quick to learn, and most beautiful cavaliers I have owned! Marijo comes highly recommended from us over at Bella Notte Cavaliers for her high-quality cavaliers. Very lucky to have landed one of her best pups! Thank Marijo!

Our Bitterroot Petey Truffle is a dream and we are honored to have one of Mari Jo Delap’s pups in our family.

Our journey to Petey began during a chance meeting of one of Mari Jo’s pups in our local grocery store in upstate New York. My eyes laid upon the sweetest dog I’d ever seen. Her owner told me she was from Bitterroot Cavaliers in Montana and she spoke very highly of Mari Jo. I’d always thought Cavalier King Charles dogs were cute, but this Bitterroot pup took cuteness to the next level, her eyes so expressive, calm and friendly. I went straight to the website and soon after inquired with Mari Jo about the possibility of a right fit puppy for our family. I described our interests with three young children. Mari Jo was caring, honest, patient, knowledgeable and friendly. Based on our discussion, she suggested a male puppy from Faith. Soon after, the pandemic hit. With that and the fact that our children were still very young, we decided to wait. But we never forgot. Even while waiting patiently, I checked the website frequently. Finally in the fall of 2023, I noticed Faith had just had her last litter. No more waiting for us.

We chose Petey and had fun watching him grow on Mari Jo’s live cam. Mari Jo provided a binder full of helpful information. Any question I had was addressed in the binder which helped me prepare for his arrival.  Being so far away in upstate NY, getting Petey home would be a challenge. Mari Jo suggested a flight nanny, Pet Jet Pals, the only one she would trust.

Petey arrived home on December 2, 2023 via a seamless flight with Pet Jet Pals. Petey came to us well socialized, sleeping through the night and well on his way to potty training. He is loving, affectionate, fun, easy, sensitive to feelings and an absolute joy! Petey assimilated immediately into our family like he has always been here!

Thank you, Mari Jo for entrusting us with one of your Bitterroot Cavaliers. Not only is he the most beautiful, but also has the sweetest soul!

Sincerely,
Kelly

Bitterroot Cavaliers Review

Where to start?  I have owned Cavaliers for almost 13 years now.  My first Cavalier, Cheppie, was a rescue and suffered from very serious Mitral Valve disease for 5 years.  He was the most amazing dog even though his pedigree did not indicate as much.  I was looking for another Black and Tan male Cavalier for almost 2 years.
I was trying to be a perfectionist as I wanted a dog like Cheppie, but I did not want all the health problems that Cheppie had.  (He also lost like 7 teeth even though he got regular cleanings until he couldn’t anymore because of his heart murmur).  I looked everywhere on the east coast, Texas, Midwest.  I wanted a great dog.  I kept looking at the AKC Marketplace, but to no avail.  I also wanted to have a relationship with the breeder with whom I purchased my new dog.  Was I asking for too much?  I didn’t want to give up on the possibility that this magical pair existed (great dog and great breeder).  I needed to find a companion for my now 11 year old Black and Tan Cavalier named Pitzie.  She was lonely and sad.  I was too.  I missed Cheppie so much.
One day I was looking at the Marketplace and I saw a very cute Ruby Cavalier boy all the way in Montana.  I emailed asking if there were any Black and Tan Cavaliers available.  Marijo told me that there were not.  She did, however, tell me that following year she would be pairing two Black & Tan Cavaliers.  We spoke on the phone and hit it off instantly.  Maybe, better said, I hit it off instantly with her because I was so excited to have found my next great dog.  I couldn’t wait and every so often I would call her asking about updates on the future litter.  Later on she told me that I was the most persistent person ever.  I took that as a compliment.
I received the 5 generation family tree of both Xayah and the father of my future puppy.  I also had the 5 generation health reports on both sides for my future puppy.  I even did some investigating on the father’s line to find pictures of most of his past generations. I felt great, as I still do, about my decision.  Blue Boy was born on 4/9/22.  For the next ten weeks I got to watch and talk with my dog on a Wyze cam.  I kept on calling him Blue Boy because of the Blue collar he was wearing and when it came time to name him I just called him “Blue Boy”.
I flew out to Montana from Philadelphia to pick him up last June.  I stayed for 5 days.  I knew that I was going to get a great dog.  I didn’t know that I would be getting a great friend as well.  Marijo is amazing.  Such a great person.  She cares so much about her dogs as if they were her children.  I know all the names of all her dogs now.  I ask about them often.  Liesl, who just got her first dog show win, is Blue Boy’s sister.  Marijo feeds them the best food, often making food for them from scratch with long recipes that she has also sent me.  She actually bought a bigger bed so that her dogs can all have a place to sleep near her.
Marijo wants the Cavalier breed to be better.  She is transparent.  You will know everything about her dogs before you commit to buying a puppy.  I trust her 100%.  We talk often even though we are both very busy.  If you want to buy a Cavalier from someone that will always be there for you even after you take your puppy home… Marijo is that person.  I hit the jackpot.  I still sometimes can’t believe that I was so lucky to get Blue Boy.  I feel kinda honored that she let me buy one of her dogs.  Blue Boy is my 4th Cavalier.  Thank you so much for making me so happy.  I would definitely buy another dog from her.  You should too!

I wish that stud owner's offered pedigrees as you do. You are SO forthcoming with information; you follow thru on things and don't leave people wondering where things stand. You are truly top of the line, in our opinion! 🤗
I get on FB about once a week and see comments about Bitterroot Cavaliers being great, health tested, you're awesome to communicate with, etc. I'm so proud of your success and feel privileged to personally know you! ❤️

I am so grateful for my companion, Gram. He is so smart, cuddly and a good traveler - over the last year he and I logged many miles together. I felt confident knowing that genetic testing was done to confirm that his parents were healthy and that Gram's chances of having a healthy life would be good, as well. Marijo educated me, as a first-time new puppy raiser and I am very pleased that I found her, and Gram found me.

Marijo is an excellent breeder with years of experience and knowledge. She has also been a vet's assistant and is capable of doing many things a vet can do.  Again...very knowledgeable.

She has a professional whelping/nursey room, a beautiful kennel that is part of her house.
Marijo is detailed and expects perfection in herself, her kennel help and her dogs.  She has strict contingencies in her contracts for the purpose of wellbeing for her dogs and to help the new owner be a successful parent.  She honest and expects that from her clients.
She is a very fair and generous woman.
I have 2 of her dogs. One is 2 and the other 4 months. They play so good together. They are strong, healthy, great disposition, and beautiful coats.

I am Jane Gronley and a new owner of a beautiful puppy, Tucker, purchased from Marijo Delap, Bitterroot Cavaliers. This past January I decided I needed a companion. After researching, the Cavalier breed kept coming to the top of the list. I found Marijo’s website and contacted her about a Ruby colored puppy. She and I continued to keep in touch with an adoption. Marijo was prompt in her responses to me. She never left me hanging on a limb. I was thrilled when one of her puppies was available.
My daughter-in-law, granddaughters and I drove to Hamilton to pick up Tucker. We were introduced to Tucker’s Mom, Dad and Grandma. It was delightful! Marijo included in Tucker’s adoption a large bag of items to ensure a smooth transition to Tucker’s new home. This included premium dog food, chews, toys, a collapsible water cup and a special little doggie blanket with her scent on it to give him comfort on these first few days. Very thoughtful! She had also prepared a comprehensive 3-ring binder. I have referred to this many times and gave it to my veterinarian providing information for Tucker’s file. I was told this was the best information on a puppy they had ever been given and were grateful for it. In the binder she included a nicely written article about Cavaliers, our contract, Tucker’s health information and vaccine schedule, a history of his parents, information when receiving a new puppy and feeding instructions. Even his Birth Certificate. Marijo went thru this binder with me before we left. She thoughtfully also had him microchipped and registered with AKC.
I found working with Marijo to adopt my puppy was a very pleasant experience. I felt like I was buying him from someone that really loved her dogs and puppies and wanted good homes for them. Marijo mentioned she loved having messages and pictures of her puppies in their new homes sent to her. I have flooded her phone with Tucker pictures as he grows familiar with my home and all our adventures. She always responds quickly showing how much she loves the puppies. Communication after the adoption with questions have been so helpful to me.
I hope this letter helps in your search. I believe a purchase from Marijo would not disappoint.

Sincerely,
Jane and Tucker (4 months) (Kalispell, MT)

UPDATED 02/08/23.

Dear MariJo, I wanted to let you know what a special little puppy and now adult Tucker is. Tucker was 1 year old in November.  I’m pleased to say as a young adult, he continues to be my best companion. He is easy to take anywhere. I take him into any business that is dog friendly. He quickly adapts and complies sitting nicely in the cart or at a table in the coffee shop. I get numerous compliments on him even people asking to take his picture. With all other people around giving him attention, he keeps an eye on me. I have never seen him crabby or aggressive towards anyone or any other dog. He is totally a peacemaker. One time while walking him, an aggressive dog approached us snapping his mouth and lunging at us. I scooped Tucker up and was able to fend the dog off. He was after Tucker. Tucker let me handle the situation not adding to the drama. He is quiet natured rarely barking. He does not have any bad manners or habits. Tucker has brought me lots of joy!!

Although I do not own a cavalier, nor knew the breed, I have fallen in love with them.
I have worked for Marijo for over 2 years as her kennel help. I learned so much about dogs in general. I had grown up on a farm in Indiana to ranching in Montana know all aspects of livestock care and husbandry but
not dogs.
I have seen her love for these dogs and how she cares for them, from all the important health testing, to birthing, and their nutrition... I love to see her interaction with her buyers making sure they know what they are going to need and preparing the puppy binders to send home with them and the goody bags full of toys.
Shes definitely the most in-depth breeder I have met or worked for.
I hope to continue to learn more from her, and one of these days, I would love to get a Cavalier from Marijo!

Hello MariJo
First and foremost, thank you for your compassion, education and expertise when it comes to the Cavalier King Charles breed of Spaniel. From our first conversation, I could tell how much you love, admire and nurture the animals under your care. After losing both my elderly dogs and with a broken heart, I put my trust in you and your breeding program to provide my husband and I with our next pup - and you didn’t let us down. You listened to what we needed and steered me to an adorable pup with a brown collar. We now have the pleasure of loving an adorable 5-month old Cavalier we call Yogi Bear. He brings us and anyone around him such joy and happiness. Thank you for providing us with a well-socialized, well bred, lovable and healthy pup.
All my best,

I want to thank Bitterroot Cavaliers for bringing Archie into my life!  Marijo truly cares for the Cavalier King Charles breed.  She goes above and beyond other breeders to ensure her puppies are healthy.  Archie came home kennel trained and having a great start on potty training.  He so smart!  He is a joy to have and already enjoying family adventures!
Thank you, Marijo!

Exceptional therapy dog's hands down!
Cleanliness inside and out with a caring staff! I purchased 2 cavaliers one in 2019 and the other in 2020 and have never been happier. I had a major hemorrhagic stroke with paralysis on my right side; both dogs are now my therapy dogs. This is not your average breeder because their dogs are from top lineage. Both dogs are 100% in tune to my pain level. During physical therapy they will lick my right hand and leg and know exactly where to concentrate the pressure which alleviates the pain. I have never seen anything like it and recommend Bitterroot Cavaliers to anyone looking for top quality. Nothing short of a miracle because I credit both dogs for bringing me back to life. I am so thankful I found this place because it's well worth the drive from Billings. I keep in touch with the owner which reaffirms they care. Thank you, Bitterroot Cavaliers!!

I am at grateful to Mari Jo for this darling
I picked up my Chika from Bitterroot Cavaliers in October, 2023 and what a delight she has been.
Chika is the sweetest puppy I have ever had. She is so intelligent and funny. Chika is a calm, quiet and beautiful soul. Having had service dogs in our family for over 15 years, I know that Chika will someday make an incredible therapy dog.
I am so excited to see what the future holds for this spectacular beauty.

“A Dream Come True”
I waited 15 years to bring home my baby boy “Winston.” Why so long?  Many have asked me.  With my work schedule I knew I would wait until I retired.  I did some research on-line and found Marijo.  We corresponded via email and telephone long before the retirement date was set.  I knew when the time was right, I would be getting my puppy from Bitterroot Cavaliers.  All puppies are adorable!  My number one concern was the health of the dogs.  In researching Bitterroot Cavaliers my concerns were put to rest.  Marijo is a top-notch breeder with many years of experience.  She made the whole process seamless.  I was able to view and talk to Winston every day via webcam.  She also sent me pictures.  Any time I have questions she is so helpful.  The binder of information provided is extremely helpful in caring for my new best friend.
I highly recommend Marijo and her team.  Winston is everything I had wanted.  I'm so in love!

As a veterinary professional, I see the CKCS breed regularly and have fallen in love with their amazing personalities. The best explanation I have heard describing their temperament is “like a child without stranger danger”. They are small, yet athletic and able to keep up on hikes and runs. They are not excessively vocal and are very friendly to people and other dogs. Unfortunately, this breed has a history of genetic disease, most commonly and severely, heart and eye disease. I am grateful to have found a great, dedicated breeder in Marijo and Bitterroot Cavaliers. Her dams/sires are examined by heart and eye specialists yearly to ensure the best chance of health in their puppies; and Marijo is very forthcoming with all the official results and paperwork. She has been a great communicator through the whole pre and post transaction process. We picked up our Cedar boy about 2 months ago and absolutely adore him! He is a perfect representation of the breed, and we are excited for all our future adventures! We recommend Bitterroot Cavaliers and plan to have at least one of Marijo’s dogs for the foreseeable future!

Cedar is doing great, and we love him so much! I started him in a puppy agility training class, and he is a very good student. He comes to work at the vet clinic a couple days a week with me and does great there. He is also happy at home with the little kids and big dogs- very confident and athletic.

5 Stars for Bitterroot Cavaliers

What can I say about Marijo and her Bitterroot Cavaliers?
She is the absolute BEST!
We contacted 5 different breeders in our search for our sweet Cavalier.
Bitterroot Cavaliers had the most informative and comprehensive website.
Marijo posts the certificates of health testing so there is no question of integrity in breeding her Cavaliers.
Marijo took the time to talk with us over the phone and answer all of our questions with loving kindness and patience. She is a compassionate, professional lady who is committed to responsible breeding of Cavaliers.

We travelled from South Louisiana to Montana to get our baby girl. We were able to visit Bitterroot’s kennel and meet all of her dogs. It was incredibly clean, and her dogs were happy and healthy.
We came home with our healthy baby girl, some toys and a binder filled with all of the information we needed to care for our girl.
We also made a friend for life with Marijo!
She has been happily available to answer any questions we have, and we even send her photos of our girl as she is growing.
We will be getting another Cavalier from Bitterroot Cavaliers in the near future.
I highly recommend Bitterroot Cavaliers!

Bitterroot Cavaliers Review

My research for a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel began on the American Kennel Club (AKC) Website, the gold standard for top-notch breeders.  I narrowed my search to a radius of 500 miles from my home in central Idaho and found Bitterroot Cavaliers and breeder MariJo Delap.
I was intrigued by MariJo’s website, by far the most informative and thorough I had come across.  I quickly realized how knowledgeable and passionate she is about the breed.  Her website covers everything from the health testing certificates, photo’s of her adult dogs and puppies and all the information to start your journey of purchasing one of these very special dogs.
Convinced, I chose our precious little Blenheim Boy, Winston.  MariJo continually kept me informed of his development from birth last June to when my husband and I picked him up 10 weeks later.  We were impressed with the many photos and videos documenting Winston’s early development.  We travelled to Hamilton, Montana where we met MariJo and her Cavaliers.  She is a natural with her dogs and is a wealth of information about the breed.  She even provided us with an informative binder packed full of important information pertaining to all aspects of caring for our dog.  Her establishment was clean and the dogs appeared happy and healthy.
MariJo has become a dear friend and I can always rely on her for any guidance and recommendations.
I highly recommend MariJo Delap and Bitterroot Cavaliers!

Mary jo is a wonderful breeder. She is very attentive with her dogs including her expecting mom's and newborn pups. Mary jo is very conscious about the blood line, so you are assured to get a high-quality Cavalier. The dogs are happy, well taken care of from the proper food to the correct shots. I would only get my Cavaliers from Mary Jo, we have 2.

I’ve been buying my Cavaliers from Marijo @ Bitterroot Cavaliers for years and with good reason. She is an absolute professional. Has a fabulous facility in her home, a nursery for Mothers and newborns, separate quarters for studs and plenty of room to roam and spend time with her family. Her knowledge of her dogs is impressive for their health and care. Males and females are all tested for eyes, heart and joints before breeding. You get the very best puppy, and you can always rely on Marijo for support.

We highly recommend Marijo, her devotion and passion, for breeding such beautiful, healthy and caring fur babies.

I purchased my very first cavalier from Marijo in 2020 and I can’t imagine my life without my little black and tan bundle of joy!! ❤️ Marijo’s website caught my eye but her outstanding knowledge, kindness, and clean facility was what made me decide to invest in her quality dogs. She was quick to respond, gave me information about the breed and allowed me to visit prior to getting my puppy. She prepared a detailed binder with all my puppy’s information on the day of pickup as well as a goodie bag for the transition. My experience working with Bitterroot Cavaliers makes me excited to purchase my next dog from her in the near future.
I highly recommend Bitterroot Cavaliers!

Service dog

I found Mari Jo after extensive online research and when we talked in person, I knew she was the right breeder for me. She is extremely knowledgeable and was helpful and supportive through the whole process. When we went to visit her and to choose my pup I saw that all her dogs were well behaved, healthy and obviously loved and cared for. The facilities were immaculate. Mari Jo was kind and patient while I found the perfect puppy.
My puppy 'Bitterroot Willow' is the 'perfectest', most beautiful dog I've ever met! She is a sweet ruby, almost 7 months old and when she looks you in the eyes she makes you feel like the most loved person on the planet. Willow is calm but fun, sweet, attentive and overall amazing! She is training as my service dog and is already my best friend and is always by my side (or on my lap!)
I recommend Mari Jo to anyone who asks me about Willow...  and that's just about everyone we meet!

My sister researched a lot about Cavaliers before she got her puppy. When she got Bitterroot Willow, I knew I really wanted a Cavalier too. I was so happy when I got Bitterroot Lily! She is so cute and cuddly; I never thought a dog could be this loving.
If you want to get a Cavalier, Mari jo is the best person I can think of. She is kind, caring, and most importantly she loves the dogs she breeds. She answered any questions we asked and helped us with little Lily Lovebug.
Although Lily is a little mischievous, she’s mostly cute and snuggly, I love the way she looks at me adoringly. She is very happy snuggled on my lap when I’m sat reading a book. She is just so lovely and makes me feel like the most important person in the world. Lily is my best friend. I’m really glad my sister found Bitterroot Cavaliers and Mari Jo. I think she’s the best breeder in the world and I wish we weren’t so far away so we could visit more often.
I highly recommend Mari Jo and Bitterroot Cavaliers. She has such sweet dogs; they’re so snuggly and perfect I wish I could have 200 of them, they’re just so adorable.

Odin is the most amazing dog!! He’s fully bonded with us and is so smart! He’s settling down a bit and doesn’t have as much puppy energy so now he will actually cozy up and fall asleep in your lap. He’s mellow when we need him to be, and adorably playful too. He’s been a huge hit at Tyler’s work, he has a revolving group of people all vying to take him on walks during the day. Odin is also the best buddy for Maxson, the two are inseparable.

We are constantly remarking at how lucky we are to have such an incredible dog who is super handsome to boot. Thank you so much for bringing him into our lives!!

We are Susan and Joe from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. As a Christmas gift to our 9-year-old daughter Mary Ann who had been begging for a puppy for over a year, we bought a male ruby cavalier from Marijo Delap in November 2017.  Why did we get our dog from the whole way across the country?  Well, when we made our decision to get a puppy, we did our research and decided to get a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel to suit our family’s lifestyle.  While researching breeders in our area, we could not find anyone we were completely satisfied with. We went online searching for the most reputable breeders with the proper credentials, and found Marijo and Bitterroot Cavaliers in Hamilton, Montana!  We called her.  She talked with us for a long time and answered all of our questions and concerns.  What shined through to us immediately and throughout our long conversation was her genuine love and caring for each of her puppies, and her extremely high standards for breeding, making sure to give them a healthy, happy start in life.  She was very careful to vet us out too, making sure that we would be a good dog parents as well.  At that time, Marijo had a few young puppies available and recommended one to us.  When she sent us his picture, we immediately fell in love and there was no turning back.  That was in November 2017.  Bailey was born Oct. 28, 2017 and we had to wait until early January 2018 to get him so that Marijo could thoroughly and carefully complete all of his health requirements, vaccines, etc., and some potty training and crate training before she would send him to us.  She was very loving and took very special care of our little guy, before sending him to us via United Airlines from Missoula, Montana to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  She took care of arranging all of this, making sure our puppy arrived in Pittsburgh safely and comfortably. I will never forget that night – seeing the United Airlines baggage handler personally carrying our little puppy through the Pittsburgh airport towards us waiting at the pre-determined meeting spot.

Since this was a Christmas gift to Mary Ann, and we had wanted to surprise her on Christmas morning (even though we wouldn’t get him until January) Marijo had the idea of creating a picture book of our puppy to wrap up and place under the tree for Mary Ann to open on Christmas morning, to announce that this adorable little puppy would be coming to live with us and would be hers!  Marijo took on the project of creating the picture book with a beautiful introduction of the puppy and asking Mary Ann to give him a name.  She named him “Bailey”.  Mary Ann, who’s 13 now, says this will always be her all-time favorite Christmas gift!  Bailey is four and a half now and is the absolute best thing that’s ever happened to our family. He is worshipped and adored not only by us but by our whole neighborhood!

He has always been very healthy and happy.  Marijo provided us with Bailey’s pedigree chart, and every piece of information and advice imaginable to best equip us to be good dog parents. She has always been readily responsive to any questions we’ve had.  She is still in touch with us over 4 years later. We love to send her photos and updates of Bailey. We are so grateful to Marijo and Bitterroot Cavaliers for giving us our Bailey!

Dear Mari Jo,
No card could say "thank you" big enough to show how thankful we truly are for all that you do. We prayed for a long time to find the right breeder and puppy and we are so grateful for how much love and incredible care you give to each of your dogs and puppies you are raising. Charlie Boy has had the most loving environment with you! We will always strive to be the best owners we can be, and I really believe Charlie will be able to give Jaxon the love and contentment that only a special dog like Charlie can give. I also know Jaxson will love Charlie with all of his heart. You've become so dear to us in the several months and I'm so happy we've gotten to know you! We would love to always stay in touch and send you updates of Charlie Boy and Jaxon.

Thank you again Sincerely from our hearts,

We decided to purchase a dog for our daughter’s 9th birthday. I joined many Facebook groups to read more about the King Charles Cavalier breed and someone mentioned an amazing breeder from Montana. I reached out to Mari Jo, and she responded immediately. Because we almost got scammed while purchasing a puppy, I was worried we will get scammed again. Mari Jo was extremely helpful. We Face Timed her, and she showed us the puppies. The fact that we were able to watch the puppies while they were growing was amazing. Mari Jo always answered all of our questions and was really friendly and responsive to everything. Mari Jo took beautiful pictures of our puppy so we could make a t-shirt for my daughter’s birthday to surprise her with the news about her longtime dream coming true.
We are extremely happy with our puppy. She is a bundle of love and energy.
